Porn: The Marriage-Eater

Every One Loves a Wedding!

married couple

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending my niece's wedding. She is a gem of a young woman, full of life, fun to be around, and kind to the core. Her new husband loves and appreciates her, and hundreds of friends and family members came together to wish them well.

One of my niece's uncles was able to perform the ceremony and he gave them some wise advice. He reminded them that one of the most common of human failings is selfishness, but that their marriage could only thrive as they became less worried about their own needs and more concerned with the happiness of the other.

What does that have to do with porn-proofing kids?

As it turns out, a lot!

As I mingled at the reception with guests, I happened to chat with a woman who knew a young couple whose marriage had been destroyed by the husband's pornography addiction. Why? Not only because the wife was disgusted with the material he was viewing, but because porn became a third member of their marriage--and one that demanded more and more time and devotion.

After our conversation, I reflected upon all of the people I'd known whose marriages had been destroyed by pornography addiction. In fact, some estimate that fully 56% of divorces today are caused by an internet addiction.

Porn is a very selfish marriage partner.

Teaching children to be unselfish helps them to prepare for a happy marriage. And warning them about the complete selfish obsession that viewing porn can create may help them not only choose to avoid it themselves, but look for someone who has done the same.

Porn-Proofing Today’s Young Kids

"I really like the no-shame approach the author takes. It's so much more than just 'don't watch or look at porn.' It gave my children a real understanding about the brain and its natural response to pornography, how it can affect you if you look at it, and how to be prepared when you do come across it (since, let's face it... it's gonna happen at some point)." -Amazon Review by D.O.
